Translation Glossary

Create custom term lists for each language pair and apply them to document and text translations. Your key terms come out the same way every time.

How to create a glossary

Set up a glossary once and reuse it in every translation.

  • Click New Glossary and give it a name, such as Legal Terms
  • Choose the source and target language
  • Add terms with their required translations
  • Or import terms from a TSV, CSV or TXT file
  • Select the glossary when you translate

Why use a translation glossary

Machine translation may render the same word differently across documents. A glossary fixes the translation of the terms that matter, which is essential for brand names, product names and specialist vocabulary.

  • Consistent terminology across all documents
  • Brand and product names translated, or kept, exactly as you want
  • Easier review for legal, medical and technical content
  • Shared vocabulary for recurring projects

Import and export

Paste TSV content or upload a file with the columns source_lang, target_lang, source and target, separated by tabs. You can download any glossary to back it up or edit it in a spreadsheet.

Where glossaries work

Glossaries are applied with Advanced translation in the PDF translator and the text translator. Advanced translation supports a subset of target languages.
