PDF to Audio: Convert PDF Documents and Text to MP3
Listen to your documents anywhere — on a commute, at the gym, or whenever reading isn't convenient. PDF to Voice in PDF Translator Pro converts PDF files and text into natural-sounding MP3 audio using state-of-the-art text-to-speech technology. Choose a voice, set the speed, and download the audio in seconds.
Whether you want to listen to a research paper on the go, create an audio version of a report, or simply hear your own writing read back to you, PDF to Voice handles both PDF files and plain text input with the same set of voice and reading controls.
How to Convert a PDF or Text to Audio
The process takes under a minute:
- Open PDF Translator Pro and navigate to PDF to Voice from the main menu.
- Choose your input method:
- Drag and drop a PDF file onto the upload zone, or click Upload PDF to select a file from your device.
- Click Write it down to type or paste text directly instead of uploading a file.
- In the Voice tab on the right, filter by Female or Male, search by actor or voice name, and click a voice to select it. Use the Preview button next to any voice to hear a sample before committing.
- Switch to the Reading tab to choose the language and adjust the Reading Speed — from 0.25x up to 2x.
- Optionally click the filename next to Save as: to rename the output file before converting.
- Check the Cost and Balance shown in the action panel.
- Click Convert to Audio. The audio is generated on the server and the player appears when the file is ready. Play it back directly or download the MP3.
Input Modes
Two input modes are supported:
- PDF upload — upload any PDF document. The text content is extracted and converted to audio. The output file is named after the original PDF with _voice.mp3 appended by default.
- Text input — type or paste text directly into the editor. Useful for short passages, custom scripts, or content that is not in PDF form. The default output name is voice.mp3. In this mode, Auto-detect language is available — enable it to have the language identified automatically as you type rather than selecting it manually.
Voice Selection
The Voice tab gives you full control over which voice reads your document:
- Gender filter — toggle between Female and Male to narrow the list.
- Search — type in the search box to filter voices by actor name or voice name.
- Region filter — if the selected language has voices from multiple regions, a region dropdown appears to filter further.
- Preview — click the Preview button next to any voice to hear a short audio sample. Select a voice by clicking its row; the selected voice is highlighted.
Reading Settings
The Reading tab controls how the audio is delivered:
- Language — select the language of the source text. Choosing the correct language ensures proper pronunciation.
- Auto-detect language (text mode only) — when enabled, the language is detected automatically from what you type. Disable it to set the language manually.
- Reading Speed — adjust the playback rate from 0.25x (very slow) to 2x (double speed). Normal speed is 1x. The setting is shown as "Normal" at 1x and as a multiplier at other values.
Output File
The converted audio is saved as an MP3 file. The default name is {document}_voice.mp3 for PDF input or voice.mp3 for text input. To rename it, click the filename shown next to Save as: in the action panel before converting. After conversion, the audio player appears — you can play the file directly in the browser or download it to your device.
Cost
The cost is estimated before processing based on the voice, language, and amount of text. The estimated cost and your current credit balance are both shown in the action panel so there are no surprises before you confirm. If your balance is insufficient, the shortfall is shown and the app takes you to the packages page to top up.
Tips for Best Results
- Preview voices before converting. Each voice sounds different — use the Preview button to audition a few before committing to a full conversion, especially for longer documents.
- Match the language to the document. Selecting the wrong language will produce mispronounced words. If your PDF mixes languages, choose the dominant one.
- Use Auto-detect for mixed or unknown text. When pasting text whose language you are unsure of, enable Auto-detect and let the tool identify it before converting.
- Slow down for technical content. Dense technical or legal text is easier to follow at 0.75x or normal speed. Speed up to 1.5x or 2x for familiar material you want to skim.
- Rename before converting. The default filename is generic — give the output a meaningful name before clicking Convert so your downloads folder stays organised.
- Combine with Translate PDF for foreign-language documents. Translate a PDF into your language first using Translate PDF, then convert the translated version to audio — a clean workflow for foreign-language reading material.
Also Available on the Mobile App
PDF to Voice is also available in the PDF Translator Pro mobile app. On your phone or tablet you can upload a PDF or type text, select a voice, and generate an MP3 directly from the app — the same credit balance applies across both platforms.
Part of the PDF Translator Pro Suite
PDF to Voice shares the same account and credit balance as Translate PDF, Merge PDF, Split PDF, Compress PDF, Fill Out PDF, Protect PDF, Web to PDF, Scanner, and File Share. Translate a document, convert it to audio, and share it — all from the same platform without switching tools.
To get started, open PDF to Voice from the main menu and upload a PDF or type your text.
